JUDGING

Judging The International Cigar Competition is a revival of competition for the cigar industry, such as exists for Wine, Spirits and Brewed brethren. This competition will recognize the insurmountable efforts of those artisans who craft our loved tobacco leaf into magnificent creations. Not since the golden age of the International Expos of the nineteenth century has there been a cigar competition that allowed manufacturers to showcase their creations. Judged by a prestigious panel of recognized cigar experts (that is you) that will remain anonymous until after the votes have been cast and the results sealed before the awards ceremony.  Judging is based on a blind, consensual procedure. The Competition will be held concurrently with the 2009 Cigar SmokeEasy event at the Lucky Eagle Casino, Rochester, WA.

RULES

Basis of Judging:

  1. Judging will be based on the criteria established by each individual judge. We set no standards or processes by which a judge determines the rank, quality or evaluation of each cigar. You, as a judge, may use whatever criteria you see fit to judge each cigar; however, we do require you use the same criteria for every cigar judged by you to give a fair evaluation.
  2. Judging will be by category; selecting the Gold, Silver, Bronze of each. No preordained criteria for judging will be mandated, each judge will select his/her winners by his/her individual criteria.
  3. If the judges are faced with a seriously flawed cigar, they will be allowed to purchase a new or good conditioned cigar to replace that damaged cigar at the entrants expense.
  4. The International Cigar Competition awards will be made on a merit basis. The judges will not grant awards when, in their opinion, no cigars are worthy of an award.
  5. Please fill in the attached scoring sheet and turn it in to John Lalanne or Matthew Walker no later than Friday night 26 Sept 2008. Or you can mail them to Matthew Walker, 7001 72nd ST NE, Marysville, WA 98270.
